FO - New Look 6735

I have actually completed three FOs, but will take some additional pics later this weekend, after completing another pattern I've been working on this weekend. Here is the top and bottom from New Looks Pattern 6735. They are both made out of stretchy knit fabric purchased at Joann Fabrics during their HUGE sale. I am really working hard on adding comfortable, yet business casual pieces to wear to work.

For the second "photo shoot" in a row, I found San Diego to be a bit more chilly than desire, but it was still great taking snaps throughout the downtown area.

Both pieces were done almost entirely with my serger with the exception of the hem and part of the neckline. In order to take it to the next level in skills, I have ordered three books on serging; one for trouble shooting, one for my Singers, and the last one for designs.

I have already gotten a lot of use out of my new pieces. I have worn them to work and also lounging around the house. They are super comfortable and don't wrinkle when balled up in my laundry basket! A great bonus for the last-minute working woman. I am now working on a very popular pattern top that seems to be very promising. I'm hoping that my new gathering attachments with help with the midriff band. We'll see!

Give-away + More Sewing

One of the sewing/crafts blogs I follow has a wonderful give-away going on, to celebrate 100 posts (This is post 150 for me). Details here.

In sewing news - I have finished another FO. The pants that went along with my t-shirt from New Look 6735 pattern. I will have pics by this weekend for sure! I'm wearing my pants to work today. A co-worker even commented that it looks like I bought it off a RTW rack! Nice!

I also purchased more fabric during my lunch break. I am really becoming a fabric hog. I keep saying that I'm on a fabric diet, but I'm not. It's so bad that Yardage Town near my job bid me farewell with "See You Tomorrow!". Uggggh. At any rate, I have an order coming from Sew Baby for some fabric pins, Swedish tracing paper, and two Burda magazines. My Fabric.com order today is material for 3 tops and enough fabric to make the long Simplicity 2977 dress. Here are images of the jersey knits I picked.

Weekend Update

Thanks to everyone who checked out my dress and gave me such fabulous comments. They really made me smile. I'm so proud of my wearable dress, that it was good to know it might actually be a pretty dress. lol.

Weekend Update: I received all of my new books from Amazon, both knit-related and sewing types. I have managed to sew a dress and then rip the fabric with my scissors, cut a shirt with the right side of the back being cut twice, and let my inside-only cats out three-times. What a crazy sounding weekend, right. Nope. Really I felt relaxed and enjoyed the hot mornings and cool evenings. I made it to Joann's for their 50% of fabric and $1.00 Simplicity pattern sale. I also managed a new FO, which I'll post this evening after I take pictures. Stay tuned....

FO - Simplicity 3775

I have finally completed my first sewed jersey dress! I really like the bold colors and the comfort of the material. While I did have my share of drama with this piece, mainly shirring/gathering the midriff, I finally opted for a flat midriff to finish things up. This will be a great addition to my work wardrobe. Trying to do a photo shoot on the only windy day in San Diego resulted in me adding a warm, jacket to the ensemble. At least I know how I will be wearing it to work. Perfect!

I went for choice B, which is the sleeveless dress and the flat midriff. Of course, I've been seeing some great pieces with gathered midriffs and have gone out and purchased an additional Bernina attachment that has a hole to put cord into the garment to keep the gathering in place. I also purchased the walking foot to stop my tricot from sliding when I make my customized bras and an additional attachment for sewing close the the fabric edge evenly. For my simplicity dress, I just serged the edge, giving a scalloped raw finish, which I like. Actually this was my first piece that I used my serger for the majority of the work. Next up....another knit jersey! I'm anxiously waiting for my new knit books so I can sneak in a quickie, too.

Alive and Sneezing...ummm Kicking

I'm still here without any projects to show off...not the knitted variety or sewed kind! I've been having a horrible time with allergies. I've taken off from work, skipped my sewing classes, yet I'm still not feeling better and not having any projects finished. I am very close on two sewed items, a cotton dress for my Sister and a jersey knit dress for myself. I promise to try to have pics by the end of the weekend.

I purchased Custom Knits a few weeks back, in the hope of getting my knitting mojo back. No such luck, my friends. I did start on my custom dress form for Wendy's book at least. I'm going to get batting after work and stuff the inside. I also need to figure out a stand to add it to, since mine is lengthened to mid thigh.

As the saying goes: "if at first you don't succeed....". I have purchased two more knitting books; Boutique Knits by Laura Irwin and Glam Knits by Stefanie Japel. I think that a quick, smaller project will be a wise choice for me at this point. I really like the vintage style of the Boutique Knits projects and will try the hat on the cover, first.

I know the elections have been a hot topic, so I'll just add my two-cents by saying I was teary eyed all the way to the polls and am glad that change is possible. Despite any one's political views, I think it is safe to say that it is still obvious that this has been a monumental point in history for America and the world at large. My brother is 45 and in his lifetime there were still some segregated restaurants, which continued after the integration of schools. Now, people have a chance to see that truly anyone can be whatever they want, if they stand firm to their beliefs and keep moving forward. I toast the opportunity for change!
