Don't Drink the Water

Random ramblings….is it just me or is everyone popping up pregnant? I mean friends, family, movie stars, you name it. It’s got me thinking, is it in the water? I mean really, if you are not looking to have children or more children, you may rethink that cold glass of H2O. If you are ready, I say take a big gulp and wait and see if I’m right. Tempted, aren’t you? lol

So.....things have been crazy for me lately. I have not sewed or knit a lick. This is not like me, but has been my plight for the last couple of months. Despite all the crazy, it has come with a lot of good, too. I closed on my first condo and have moved in. I am still getting rid of old furniture from my rented apartment and have to do clean up before handing in those keys – but am at least sleeping at my new place. So here’s some drama….I have become more and more allergic to my cat Scofield. I have been referred to an allergist specialist and have been put on two types of medications (taken multiple times a day), including one with steroids, have paid to have bamboo flooring put into my new living room, purchased 2 air purifiers, and I am still breathing heavy – literally. More drama….after hiring an inspector, having everything check out a – okay, my hot water heater has decided to die on me now that I own my condo. Yup, straight out the gate, and I have already had my first major repair.

Now – to switch gears (this will all make sense soon enough)….I have been pretty anti-social save my beloved Brandi who is trying to push me to stop being an alien (she’s taking me out to a Thai dinner to celebrate HER birthday….how lame am I?). I took off from work to move and have just been lying in bed crying like a freak. The fact that I am allergic to my cat and will have to bring him back to the shelter that I bought him from 3 years ago is unspeakable misery to me. The fact that I can’t breathe and have multiple reasons for needing oxygen, well – I consider this a rock and a hard place scenario.

I’ll stop rambling and let you all know that my original water drinking rant was in fact true. And girl oh girl, let me tell you that I DRANK THE WATER….21 weeks ago to be exact. Yup, little baby girl is going to be here in early December…..

Congratulations!! Hope your condo has another bedroom(grin) Sewing for little girls is so much fun. Do you have home owners insurance in Calif? That should cover your water heater.

So are you allergic because you're pregnant?! Or is it in fact the water? *smile* Congratulations! And I know you are going to make some amazing maternity clothes!

Congratulations! Aren't you glad you don't have to be huge during the summer like me?! Sorry to hear about the cat. Could the new allergies possibly be related to pregnancy?

oh my goodness, congratulations!!!! That's so exciting. maybe your allergies are bad because you're pregnant? It woudl be terrible to give up your kitty... maybe you can find a friend that will take him for a bit, see if you are better after the birth?

Thanks everyone! I am suffering worse with pregnancy, but have been severely allergic to him for over a year now. I just kept trying to cope because he means so much to me. Now that I'm breathing for two, I'm realizing I can't just let it continue.

I do have San Diego Home Owner's Insurance, but with my coverage I still ended up paying $300 in San Diego permits (yup, just to have the water heater installed), water heater removal, and standard $55 service charge. Still - it beats the $865 cost it would have been.

I have a HEPA filter vacuum, and use it often. Barring that, apparently if you double-bag it's almost as good, ie cut out the very top of one bag, slip the other into it, use that instead of one vacuum bag.
But without a doubt the most helpful kitty thing I learned was.. the washcloth. If you have one you can toss into the bathtub, that's best. But if you have one of those that'd just as soon rip your face off as put up with the bath, then you can at least take a humid washcloth and rub them lovingly with it. Removes the saliva protein that's mostly what we react to, without trauma to either party.
And watch out for steroids, not only are they bad for you when you're taking them, but the rebound effect will have you convinced that you'll die if you stop. Decrease gently but firmly, and change doctors if that's all this one has to offer.

Good luck!

Congratulations! Yup, something is in the water! Just at church, at the grocery store, or just walking anywhere, I see mamas-to-be. It's a joy to see new life. You will enjoy sewing cute outfits for your little girl. Before you know it, your own wardrobe will be inundated with pink!
