I made a dress last night. Well, maybe this morning, since it was after midnight. The material has been in my stash for 3+ years, so I'm glad to put it to use, finally. This is going to be a VERY popular Vogue pattern, I'm sure. It is Vogue 1250. Carolyn made a glorious version in material that I happen to have in my stash as well....hmmmm.
Here's my review:
Pattern Description:
Semi-fitted, cowl neck dress.
Pattern Sizing:
6-14, 14-20. I made a straight size 18, but should have probably made a 16.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, although my material could be a little bit more slinky.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Pretty straight forward, although I missed doing the bottom back tucks at first, even though it was clearly in the directions. Might be the midnight sewing. lol
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like that it is a simple dress, but still has a different construction with the long front piece connecting to the back. I also loved the drape of this cowl neck.
Fabric Used:
A mystery knit fabric from my stash. I believe I bought it from Joann Fabric's.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None! Can you believe it?
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes to both questions. I would like to try this in a slinkier, patterned knit. I fell in love with Carolyn's version and would like to duplicate!
Conclusion:
As stated by the other reviewers, this is a great pattern that can translate into very different looks, just by changing the fabric.
So I am excited about Easter! This will be Nilah's first Resurrection Sunday. I am hoping to make a nice meal for after service. I have really been feeling tired lately, so I'm not sure how it will all work out. I know that I am a new mother, but Nilah is such a good baby, that I don't really feel like I should be any more tired than before I had her. The fact that I have only managed to sew my easier projects proves I am wrong. lol. Hopefully I will get to my next Vogue dress this weekend. At least cutting it out that is....

This is truly lovely on you and if you want to make a version using the same fabric I did go ahead...it's not like we are going to bump into each other! :) As for the being tired thing...I didn't sew until my babies got to be about 6 months old so I applaud you that you are doing it. There is a lot of work associated with those little people!
Very pretty dress. I remember the tired feeling when my babies were little, it is hard to do it all and it just makes your tired.
