Yes....I have returned from my cruise. I will have "Clothes in Action" pics over the next few days. First, I'll show you the last outfit I made before the cruise.... Butterick 5352. I fell in love with Erica B's version found here. I knew I had to try it. In her pattern review she warned about the tucks at the bodice and waist and boy was she right. She is advanced in sewing and I am barely beyond beginner, so you know I was hurtin' as I tried this one out!
I made this dress the night before my cruise trip. It was quite frustrating actually. The pleats and tucks at the bodice/waistline felt impossible to make work. It did in the end and I had a fun dress to wear for dinner during my trip. Hilarious and unbelievable as it sounds, my Sister wore a dress made out of identical fabric that she purchased in Vermont the SAME night as I decided to wear the one I made from my San Diego fabric purchase. Of course, hers was a RTW store bought dress, but how bizarre. Here's some pics of us at dinner.
I am so happy that I made the dress, but think that it was too frustrating to attempt again. While I made it in one evening, the stress I felt was beyond what I like. Who knows, a few years from now, with more sewing skills down, I'll try it, but not until I forget the pain of the first try. lol.....in case my negative words don't let you see this - yes, I love this dress. Sexy, sassy, and ultra comfortable. Also, this was made out of the same material I used to make my Simplicity 2552 top, that is now too big for me. I had to have something in this fabulous material, so I ran out to Yardage Town and picked up another couple of yards.

That fabric looks fabulous on you both. Glad you had a good time.
What great fabric! I agree with Gail, it looks fabulous on both of you!
Your dress is very lovely. It's cool your sister had a dress in the same fabric and you guy's were able to match. You've done great work and it shows! I think you can elevate your sewing level from beginner to intermediate. After sewing 60+ garments from pants to dresses--I do think you qualify for the elevation (wink)!
You were undoubtedly the 2 most beautiful ladies on the cruise. How coincidental that your fabrics were the same. If you girls look like your mom, she is one gorgeous lady, too.
I cannot believe she has a dress made from the same fabric!! (By the way I LOVE that fabric - quite jealous here!)
The two of you look absolutely beautiful!
I agree that you are definitely not a beginner any more!
Fabulous! If you hadn't said so, I would have thought you made both dresses!
Y'all look beautiful! Glad you had a great time.
You both look fabulous, and the fabric really suites you both...Welcome back
awesome dresses! You both look fantastic.
Quite a sassy little number you've whipped up there Miss Susan! It looks great! Yeah what a coincidence that you and your sister wore similiar dresses. Yours looks every bit RTW as hers does! We'll have to see the rest of your photos! Cruise...fun!!!
Beautiful fabric and you and your sister look fabulous in your dresses.
That's so funny that your sister had a store-bought dress in the same exact material! You both look fabulous, and I LOVE your dress. And can I also point out that I think you are WAY past "barely beyond beginner"???
Welcome Home!!!! You did an awesome job on that dress. That is too funny that both you and your sister wore close to the same thing. You both look great!!
I thought the same as Meli88a did -- that you'd made both dresses! Unbelievable that both were the same fabric from way different sources! You both look FAB!
PS - Welcome home! Hope you're well rested and ready to dig right back into day-to-day life! :D
Great looking dress. I'm looking forward to seeing your cruise "action photos".
Welcome back!..You did a great job on your dress and I love the fabric
Welcome back! Hope you had a great time. :)
What a cute little dress!
That is a GREAT dress! How cool is that that you both have the same print on? I'm sure you had a slamming good time on that cruise!
