Frogs and Cast-Ons

I have frogged my Tubular Camisole by Stephanie Japel. I felt so good about my compensation methods for this top. So many people had mentioned sizing on Ravelry and I took note. I cat-on for the x-small, which is 2 sizes below my normal size and then I went down 2 needle sizes. Still HUGE when I tried it on. No sense continuing - so I frogged the project and have recycled the CottonEase for the Zephyrstyle pattern, Tube Toporini. I'm 3inches into the bust portion of the project. This is really coming along. I'm not sure how I feel with my pre-blocked piece due to a tight looking cable down the front, but will keep going with it. Once I'm below the bust portion, I'll try it on for fit. I also chose the smallest size for this pattern, due to a sneaky suspicion that I knit looser with this yarn.

Favorite Color Swap Questionnaire

I have joined the Favorite Color Swap. First assignment, fill out a questionnaire. Without further ado, everything you did and didn't want to know about me in a nut shell:

  1. What are your top three favorite colors? Blacks, Purples, & Wines

  2. What crafts do you really enjoy? Knitting & Quilting

  3. What products do you really covet? Buttons, baubles, & hooks for knitting projects, cute stitch markers that don’t come apart with use, & yarn soak now that I’m starting to block my projects

  4. What other activities do you enjoy besides your favorite crafty things? Watching movies, walks or biking on the boardwalk, cooking, & socializing

  5. Is there anything you collect? Shoes, Purses, Knitting Books, & Quilting Books

  6. What is your zodiac sign and/or Chinese zodiac symbol? Sagittarius and Tiger

  7. What are your favorite……

    • scents/smells? Lavender, jasmine, rain
    • types of music and/or bands? R&B(Avant, Raheem DeVaugh, Carl Thomas), Hip-hop(R. Kelly, Lil Wayne, Ciara, Ludacris, alternative (Audioslave, Bat for Lashes, Sigur Ros, Disturbed, Fuel, Cold Play) and soul (Goappele, Eryka Badu, Raphael Sadiq, Amel Larrieux), Dave Mathews Band, Byork - too much to list...

    • places to shop? I’m a bargain girl so Target is high on my list. Also enjoy indulging at Nordstrom’s and Macy’s

    • season? Fall in Vermont, but Summer in San Diego

    • yarn/fabric/paper/other craft supplies? I’m into all natural yarns. Silks, Cottons, etc. Of course wool blends are better than 100% wool with me being in California.

  1. Do you have any wish lists? I might have some books on Amazon on a wish list, not really sure

  4. Other interesting/or not so interesting things about me:

    • My Ravelry ID is KnittersDelight

    • I'm a texture person – I think it gives clothing it’s style

    • I love to travel and have been to France, England, Holland, and several countries in Africa. I have a lot more places to visit during my lifetime for sure.
    • I prefer red wine over white – Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, & Merlot
    • I like to think of myself as a girl-girly with an edge. I have my tom-boy side for sure.

Late FO - Tam A & Cast On Camisole Tube Top

I have finally taken pics of my second Tam from Knitty's Three Tams Projects. I really like the colors on this one better than my first. The problem, however. It's just a tad too small. Bad news for me - good news for my small headed, older sister. Plus - she lives in Vermont and with all of the recent dumpings they've received, it'll come in handy, for sure.

Specs:
Pattern: Three Tams by Angela Sixian Wu

Yarn: Patons Classic Wool Merino in Dark Grey Mix (less than 1/2 the skein) and Twilleys of Stamford Freedom Spirit in Blue (2/3 skein).

Size: One size fits all

Needles: US 5 (24" circular) and US 4 (16" circular)

Notes: Since I felt the hat could have been a bit more snug on my last version, I went down to a size 5. Unfortunately, I think the second yarn on this one had a slightly smaller gauge. Still, I liked how the yarn changed colors on this one better than my first hat, which failed to show as much of the pattern as this go around. Will I go for Tam C to complete the trilogy? I think it might be in my future, but this time using the suggested Nora Silk Garden yarn for the stranded color work.

I have also cast on for my latest project, the Camisole Tube Sweater by Stefanie Japel of Glamyre Knits. It's coming along quite nicely. I cast on for the xsmall size using a yarn with a larger gauge. There was a lot of complaints of this one coming out too big, so I'm trying to keep a close eye. I'm using US size 4, 6 & 7 on this one to ensure the girls can breathe, but the fit is snug where appropriate. I have 2 repeats of the 8-row pattern and then am onto the 5 1/2 inches of 3 x 3 ribbing. Not bad in only a couple days. I predict a finished FO for Friday! Once that's set, I promise to rekindle my new found love of all things stranded by picking my transparency gloves back up.

I've been queueing like crazy lately. So many projects, so little time. I've actually thought of disciplining myself by choosing projects based on books I've bought, but not knit out of. I have sooo many....if I'm not mistaken, I've only knit out of 4 books. I have at least 20. I recently purchased 3 new books, so we'll see how this works. I don't think my will power is too strong, but its worth a try, right. We'll see.

Friday Reflections

Happy Friday everyone one. It's a beautiful and sunny San Diego day and I'm at work eating like a PIG! lol. Oh well, we all get cravings. At any rate, I have finished my Knitty Tam A and have it blocking in my bathroom. Pics will be posted this weekend, once it's dried. I decided that I wanted to make this a tad bit smaller than my first one and went down one needle size (specs to come). Now I'm a bit concerned with how small I made it. I blocked my first tam on my dinner plate and this one wouldn't make it around the same plate. I now have it blocking over a large bowl. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, cause I think the color is so cute.

As I mentioned in a previous post - I'm having that project searchitus affliction still happening. You know, the one before startitus? Anywho, it just seemed like I'd never make up my mind on my next new project. Well, even though I should be finishing up my first transition glove, I've finally cast on for a top, the Tubular Camisole. I'm using my dark lilac CottonEase yarn that was previously making the Romantic Cable and Lace Vest by SweaterBabe. I have some really pretty matching ribbon that was suppose to go with the vest and will try to incorporate it into this project. I'm thinking that it'll be part of the straps somehow.

While I enjoy these smaller projects and even have a Tudora project planned, I'm missing my tops. Hopefully this will be a quick knit and get me out of my "buy patterns, make nothing" funk.

Have a Fabulous Weekend!!!

Venice Beach and Small Knits

Not too much done on the knitting front. I find myself (like hundreds of others) caught in an evil web of searching for the "great, next pattern". I am a little over halfway finished my second Tam from Knitty, which should really only take a day or so to finish in the first place! I do love the colors. Still muted, but seems to show the pattern better than my Tam B.

New guy "G" and I took a trip to Venice Beach this weekend. It was really fun. It reminded me of the movie Lost Boys when they play the song "People are Strange" While Lost Boys was set in the fictitious town called Santa Carla - a fake Santa Cruz of sorts, Venice Beach still brought me back to my all-time favorite movie. Awesome. I was soooo excited walking around. You take pictures of locals and then have to give them a tip. Vermont has nothing like this and even though I've been in California for a year and a half - I don't think I've seen anything in San Diego remotely like this either. I promise I'll have an FO pic in the next few days and will start back on my transition gloves before casting on for the Somewhat Cowl or back on the cast-on row for the Transparency Sweater.
