Tomato with Herringbone Pattern

Here is my Tomato progress after completing the herringbone pattern at the small part of my waist (a little below my chest). I really like it. The color is not correct on here - it's much darker. I'll take another once I work the neck edging and sleeve edging. I'm going to work on that tonight, so I won't have any finishing to do once the body is complete. I only have three more days to work on this, but I really think I'll be able to pull it off. It's funny, I was actually making 2 sweaters a month, but during my break-up, I stopped knitting for 3 - 4 months. Still, if I complete Tomato, I will have successfully completed 12 sweaters in 2007. It feels good....BTW - other than a blanket, this is the first real color work knit that I have ever done. I really dig it and will now look out for more multi-colored patterns.

Rolling with Tomato

Try as I may, it just won't work. Over my Christmas trip to Vermont, I brought Tomato with the small amount of yarn left in the skein and my new project the Tube Toporini. My plan was to crank out the new project to give me a final 2007 FO. Did not work. So now that I'm back home in San Diego, I'm back on Tomato and loving every minute. It was a slow start, but has picked up momentum. I have knit past the bust and am now on the color work. It is a fun pattern. I'm just finishing the first 4-row pattern. Once I complete the final 2 sets of 4, I will post a photo. I'm working on this bad-boy during my work break and lunch today. I'm determined to have this be my 2007 FO!

Christmas Holiday - One Day Early

So I have been planning on flying to Vermont on the Saturday night red eye...except for the fact that I'm actually leaving TONIGHT! My Sister made my flight a month or so ago and there was a problem with the online order, so there were actually two trips - one day apart. The one that she said was cancelled was in fact NOT. So when I went to print out my boarding pass late yesterday afternoon I realized my flight is set for Friday. Man - I was so angry. I had given myself plenty of time to pack, do laundry, clean my salt water fish tank, etc. Despite all of this, things seem less stressful. My new roommie was away doing yoga so I actually had the place to myself! ***hooray for small miracles*** I had a glass of red wine given to me as a birthday gift and went to work. Even though I had to cancel plans for dinner and drinks with friends, I managed to get everything done and even catch up on a couple episodes of shows on DVR.

With that said - I have packed two WIPs for my trip; tomato and tube toporini. I have managed to complete 11 sweaters this year and am nervous that tomato is not going as fast as I'd like. Since I'm part of the Sweater A Month (SAM)knitalong I need to finish one more before the end of the year. I decided I'd cast on for a new project that should be an easy project. This was one of the few zephyr style patterns that I DIDN'T care for until I kept seeing other FOs. I think I'll make my straps thicker and voila, I'll be in love....stay tuned as I bring winter Christmas photos of knitting and family, soon.

Happy Holidays!

Birthday Pics and Weekend Plans

Since moving to San Diego a year and a half ago, I have done a poor job of venturing out. If it wasn't for my GPS system, I would probably not make it to work. None-the-less, there is so much to see and do. As a newly single woman, I am attempting to branch out. I have been 33 for a full week now. What have I done to break out of my shell? San Diego Meet Up. I joined last year and have gone to a few groups here and there, including a Girls Night Out group and a Knitting group. Still, I haven't maximized this opportunity to meet new locals. I can't depend on the friends of my former man forever right??!!!

Well I had a great birthday weekend with food, friends, and drinks...not necessarily in that order! lol. Here's some pics:

Why do I look so happy and radiant? Look at that sushi spread and you tell me!

Back to my ramblings....this Wednesday - after an impromptu hair cut, I went to happy hour with one of the meet-up groups and met a few new friends. Tonight I'm going to Top of the Hyatt for a Black Professionals meet-up, tomorrow evening dinner at Crudo for Sushi meet-up, and Sunday a White Elephant Purse Party for a Girls Only meet-up. Phew - that's more action than I've seen in 6 months! Plus - Gail and I are trying to coordinate a little knitting get together as well.

Here's me with my new do:

Hopefully a more active Susan will continue on in the upcoming New Year...we'll see!

Tomato Progress & New Project Purchase

I have now removed the sleeves and am about to join the body to work in the round. I plan on knitting with the main color until just past the bust before doing the design. I'm really excited about how the silver will look with this burgundy colored yarn. The color is a bit deeper than the pic, but might end up looking like this if it ends up bleeding a bit when I soak the cotton yarn.

I was browsing Ravelry and came across a beautiful knit cardigan from the 2005 Vogue Holiday edition. One kick stop on elann.com and two days later I have a new project. I really like the speed that Elann uses to get out their orders. The yarn is Silken Kydd in Pewter. I ordered it on the first day it went on sale. I'm not a fan of knitting in pieces, but will make Lacy Cardigan my exception.

New Knitty, Birthday Blues, & Tomato

Lurking on Ravelry, I saw that the Winter Knitty is out! I am really digging it. There is seven projects that I could see myself creating:

  • 3 Tams

  • Abotanicity

  • Ice Queen

  • Halcyon

  • Stardust

  • Laughing Carrots

  • Here's a pic of the beautiful Jeanie that I am too under skilled to attempt, but will admire on blogland as hundreds of others crank this out.

Non-knitting news...my birthday is this Friday. I ALWAYS have birthday blues. This time around, I'm refusing to go there. I'll be 33 and Fabulous!!!! I will post celebration pics next week.

I have removed the sleeves for tomato. I promise to take pics once I get to the contrasting color...stay tuned.
